I believe every item has a story. While I may not know everything about every piece that finds its way into my store, I trust my instincts. I’ve always felt I have an eye for treasures—those special items that make people smile, spark a memory, or simply refuse to be left behind. Hearts and butterflies are especially dangerous around me. They somehow always seem to follow me home. More than once I’ve bought something for the store only to decide it needed to stay with me a little longer. If I’m being honest, I could probably fill another entire building with the treasures I’ve collected at home. Truth be told, part of the reason I started selling antiques was because my kids had absolutely no interest in inheriting all my “stuff.” I figured if I sold a treasure, I’d get a little money, and then I could go out and buy another treasure. It seemed like a perfect system. Years later, I’m still following that plan—although somehow the inventory keeps growing! When I first opened Nana’s, I never imagined how quickly it would grow. Eventually I ran out of room downstairs, and my landlord converted the upstairs suite into additional retail space for the store. Before long, that filled up too. Today both floors are packed with treasures waiting to continue their stories with someone new.
